Photo detail pages
Control photo detail pages and lightbox behavior for visitors on your public site or preview URL.
When someone browsing your public site opens an image from a gallery, they may see a lightbox overlay, a full photo detail page, or both. This page covers photo detail pages—dedicated URLs on your site with one image, optional caption, EXIF, and print options. For overlay styling, layout, and video playback, see Portfolio lightbox settings. Settings are per Portfolio collection, not global.
Prerequisites
Dashboard → Portfolio → open a collection → Portfolio Settings (gear)
Copy and license text: Dashboard → Media → edit the file
Site watermark default: Dashboard → Settings → Privacy & Security → Site controls
Print sales: Dashboard → Products → Product Catalog (see print-on-demand-overview)
Lightbox versus photo detail page
| Experience | What your visitor sees on your site |
|---|---|
| Lightbox | Image opens in an overlay on top of the gallery; they stay on the same page. Configure presets, layout, captions, and video in Portfolio lightbox settings. |
| Photo detail page | Dedicated page on your public URL for one image, with room for captions, EXIF, and print ordering. |
You can enable either or both. Proofing galleries often use lightbox only; marketing galleries often enable photo detail pages so each image has a shareable URL.
Portfolio Settings — Visibility & SEO
Open Portfolio Settings → Visibility & SEO (photo detail and sharing toggles):
- Enable Page View — Allows individual photo detail pages for this collection. When off, visitors from this gallery cannot open those full pages (lightbox may still work if enabled).
- Show EXIF on photo detail page — Shows a camera-data tab when Page View is on and the file has EXIF.
- Show title & caption on photo detail page — Shows title, caption, and description tabs when Page View is on and the file has that text in Media.
- Watermark on public photo detail — Inherit site default, Always on, or Always off for this portfolio.
- Hide from Search Engines — Discourages indexing of photos in this collection.
- Enable Sharing — Share actions in the lightbox toolbar and on photo detail pages.
Enable Lightbox and all styling options live under Lightbox & Style—see Portfolio lightbox settings.
Portfolio Settings — Commerce
When your plan includes print-on-demand:
- Enable Print Options — Shows print ordering on photo detail pages for this portfolio.
- Print product (this portfolio) — Offer all eligible print products or restrict to one catalog product.
What appears on the photo detail page
Content comes from Media plus the toggles above:
- Large preview of the image (with watermark rules applied).
- Optional Caption, Description, and EXIF tabs.
- Print panel when print options are enabled and products exist.
- Add to cart / buy actions for configured print products.
Edit title, caption, description, and license template on the file in Media before expecting them on the public page.
Implementation steps
- Open the Portfolio collection you embed on your site or share with clients.
- Open Portfolio Settings → Visibility & SEO.
- Turn Enable Page View on if you want shareable single-image URLs.
- Configure the lightbox separately under Lightbox & Style when visitors should browse in-overlay—see Portfolio lightbox settings.
- Enable Show EXIF or Show title & caption only when you want that metadata public.
- Under Commerce, enable Print Options when you sell prints from this gallery.
- Save, open your gallery on the live or preview site, click through to a photo detail page, and confirm what your visitors see.
What your visitors see
On your public or preview site, visitors get the experience you chose: overlay-only browsing (lightbox), full pages with metadata, print sidebar, or a combination. Links copied from a photo detail page open that image in context when the gallery uses ?portfolio= in the URL.
Verifying your setup
- Enable Page View matches your proofing or marketing intent.
- Lightbox options (if used) are set under Lightbox & Style—see Portfolio lightbox settings.
- A test photo shows the correct caption, EXIF, and watermark behavior on the detail page.
- Print options appear only when enabled and products are published.
