Segments

A segment is the group a campaign will mail. Save everyone who is subscribed, or narrow to previous buyers who are still subscribed. The count is who matches now. The campaign uses who matched when you scheduled it.

What a segment is

A segment is a saved group of people on your list. A campaign sends to one segment. The count on the segment is who matches right now. When you schedule, the campaign uses the people who matched at that moment. Someone who subscribes later does not join a campaign you already scheduled.

A purchase does not add someone. Previous buyers means people who are still subscribed and who completed an order.

How this helps the campaign

A narrower group gets a message that fits them.

  • A print drop goes to people who bought prints.
  • A workshop invitation goes to recent buyers, or to people who bought a class.
  • A product note goes to people who bought that product, or that kind of product, in a time window.

Everyone subscribed is the whole list. Use it when the message is studio news you mean for everyone who asked to hear from you. For a sales note, start with a narrower segment.

Prerequisites

Dashboard → Email Center → Segments

Your plan includes Email Center. Otherwise the screen says Email Center is not included on your current plan.

Implementation steps

  1. Open Email Center → Segments.
  2. Choose New segment. Name it for the message, such as Print buyers or Recent workshop buyers.
  3. Choose the audience.
    • Everyone subscribed
    • Previous buyers — completed orders only, and still subscribed
  4. For previous buyers, set how recent the order is: last 7 days, last 30 days, last year, or any time.
  5. Choose which orders count: print orders, other purchases, digital orders.
  6. When other purchases are included, you can limit purchase type (digital, physical, donation) and specific products. No product selected means any product.
  7. Read the count. Save.

Verifying your setup

  • The count matches the group you intended.
  • The name would make sense when you pick it on a campaign.
  • You did not leave a sales message on Everyone subscribed unless you mean the whole list.
