Conservation Story
Add a Conservation Story block to a page, point it at a field survey (optional campaign and portfolio), pick a story intent, and publish an opinionated program page that reuses Evidence, maps, and support summaries.
Conservation Story is a page block for a full program narrative from one survey. Visitors see the pieces that already exist (Evidence, place context, optional fundraising, and support summaries) composed into one readable page. You do not rebuild a second project database inside the block.
Choose the survey first. Add a campaign only when you want fundraising framing and support summaries. Add a portfolio when you want an Impact Map section. Sections appear from the story intent plus what content you actually have. Empty sections stay hidden.
If you only need the observation timeline, use Evidence of Impact alone. Story embeds Evidence; it does not replace it.
Prerequisites
- A plan that includes field surveys (Projects → Surveys visible)
- At least one survey with media attached through observations
- Open the page editor on the program page
- Optional: a campaign and donation product (Fundraising campaigns for conservation)
- Optional: a portfolio with public map settings (Impact maps and location privacy for conservation)
What the block is (and is not)
| It is | It is not |
|---|---|
| A composition over your survey (and optional campaign / portfolio) | A new place to store species, donations, or events |
| Survey-first storytelling for donors and partners | Proof that campaign dollars were spent on that survey |
| One block with a story intent (Full, Story-led, Evidence-led, Fundraising-led) | A replacement for standalone Evidence or Impact Map when you want those alone |
Honest support language still comes from Impact Records. Linking a campaign on the Story block is framing, not spend proof.
Add the block
- Open the page in the editor.
- From Blocks, add Conservation Story (shown when field surveys are on your plan).
- Select the block. Choose the Survey.
- Optionally choose a Campaign and, under Advanced, a Portfolio, events, donate product, CTA label, or before/after images.
- Pick a Story intent, then Save and Preview.
Story intents
| Intent | Emphasis |
|---|---|
| Full story | All sections that have content |
| Story-led | Opening and narrative first |
| Evidence-led | Proof and place first |
| Fundraising-led | Get involved and your support first |
Presentation (card, banner, split, or minimal) follows the intent unless you override it in Advanced.
What visitors may see
Depending on intent and available content, sections can include:
- Opening / why this matters (from survey description and related framing)
- Evidence timeline for the survey (same privacy rules as the Evidence block)
- Where the work happens (Impact Map when a portfolio is set)
- How you can help (when a campaign is open for fundraising)
- What support produced (privacy-safe totals from Impact Records when a campaign is linked)
- Optional events and before/after images when you configure them
When a campaign has ended (completed, archived, or past its end date), donate controls hide. Historical progress can still show.
Settings that matter
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Survey | Required source for Evidence, activity, and survey-scoped story sections |
| Campaign | Optional fundraising framing and Impact Record summaries |
| Story intent | Chooses which content-backed sections lead the page |
| Portfolio (Advanced) | Optional Impact Map source |
| Donation product / CTA (Advanced) | Give control when fundraising is open |
| Events (Advanced) | Field-day highlights you choose to feature |
| Before / after (Advanced) | Optional change pair from your media library |
Steps
- Confirm the survey has tagged observations.
- Open the program page → add Conservation Story.
- Select the survey; add a campaign if you want the ask and support summary.
- Choose an intent (start with Full story or Evidence-led).
- Optionally attach portfolio, donate product, events, or before/after under Advanced.
- Save, Preview signed out, then Publish.
Verifying your setup
- The published page shows survey Evidence when observations exist.
- Empty sections do not leave blank cards on the page.
- Donate appears only when a campaign is fundraising-open and a product is set.
- Support summaries never invent survey spend without Impact Record allocations.
- Map pins follow portfolio and Data Governance rules.
