Documentation/Discovery and distribution

Publish to Bluesky

Connect your Bluesky account in Settings → Integrations → Distribution, then choose individual public photos or posts to syndicate—each Bluesky post includes text, a web-safe image when relevant, and a link back to your site.

ArtInStack can push selected public photos and blog posts to your Bluesky account—without moving your business onto Bluesky, and without asking visitors to do the sharing for you.

This is publish-once syndication (POSSE): the original stays on your site; Bluesky gets a distribution copy with a home link. It is separate from Open Web Distribution (fediverse / Mastodon) and from visitor share buttons.

How it differs from Open Web Distribution

You can enable both, one, or neither. They do not substitute for each other.

What gets posted

When an eligible item is flagged for Bluesky:

  1. ArtInStack builds a Bluesky post from your caption/title (and description for portfolio photos), plus a link to the public photo or blog page.
  2. If there is an image, a web-safe delivery copy is uploaded (public derivative policy—not vault or camera RAW).
  3. The post appears on the connected Bluesky account.
  4. Later edits or turning the flag off update or remove the remote post when delivery succeeds.

Home links include standard UTM tags (utm_source=bluesky, utm_medium=social, campaign for photo vs post) so your analytics can attribute return visits when you use compatible reporting.

Images on Bluesky vs on your site

Your Media vault keeps the master. Public photo pages can show a large web view of that work. Bluesky (and Open Web) never receive the vault or camera RAW file.

For Bluesky, ArtInStack sends a public web derivative—the same family of capped, rights-safe images used for open-web attachments—then fits Bluesky’s current size rules automatically if needed. You do not export a special “Bluesky JPEG” by hand. Aspect ratio is preserved from the bytes that are uploaded.

Expect the Bluesky timeline image to look like a strong social post, not a print-resolution download. People who want the fuller experience open the link home on your site. If the file you uploaded was already small, both the site and Bluesky stay limited by that source—syndication cannot invent pixels.

Connect Bluesky

  1. Eligible plan with Distribution available.
  2. Dashboard → Settings → Integrations → Distribution.
  3. On the Bluesky card, choose Connect and complete Bluesky’s sign-in (OAuth—no app password paste).
  4. When connected, the card shows your handle. Use Disconnect to revoke the session.

You do not need a custom domain for Bluesky. The Distribution hub still appears when Distribution is on your plan—even if Open Web stays locked until a domain is connected.

If the card asks you to reconnect (reauth_required or similar), complete Connect again. ArtInStack does not silently retry with an expired session.

Choose what to share

There is no “share everything to Bluesky.”

  • Posts: Publishing sidebar — Bluesky switch (shown when Distribution is on and Bluesky is connected).
  • Portfolio photos: Distribute dialog — draft Open Web and/or Bluesky, then Apply (one save, not a publish on every toggle).

Only public, eligible surfaces can syndicate. Drafts, vault-only, and confidential collections stay out.

Use the same judgment as Choose what to share to the open web: flagship frames, captions for strangers, rights cleared, fewer stronger pieces.

What “public” means here

Bluesky (and its caches) may store, resize, and display the text and image you send. Disconnecting or turning Share off asks for removal; third-party retention cannot be guaranteed. Only syndicate work you accept seeing on that network.

What ArtInStack does not do

  • Post into Instagram or Facebook for you.
  • Run a Bluesky-like feed or engagement inbox inside the dashboard.
  • Rewrite your vault or master files to fit Bluesky’s limits (delivery copies are ephemeral).
  • Auto-syndicate the library when you Connect.

Verify

  1. Connect succeeds and your handle appears on the Bluesky card.
  2. Flag one public test photo or post; Apply / publish.
  3. Confirm the Bluesky post: text, image (if any), and link home with utm_source=bluesky.
  4. Open the link and confirm it lands on the right photo or blog page.
