Social / open-web distribution (federation)

ArtInStack should not become a decentralized social network. It should remain a creator-owned publishing and business system whose public layer is interoperable with decentralized social networks.

Product thesis:

Create once. Publish everywhere. Own the relationship.

More fully: ArtInStack is the operating system for an independent creative practice — website, portfolio, media, clients, publishing, commerce, and audience from one owned source of truth — with public work able to travel the open web without leaving that home.

Implication: federation will not replace Instagram for discovery. Photographers already keep multiple communities (Glass, 500px, Pixelfed, mainstream social). The gap is not “another place to post photos.”

Whitespace: camera → library → portfolio → story → client → product → sale → audience → distribution as one connected system, with social as a view of owned work — not the home.

Competitive note: Pixieset / SmugMug / Format compete on galleries, proofing, and print. Pixelfed / Glass compete on photography social. None of the business-suite players lead with domain-owned open-web distribution. That is a story and a differentiator, not a market-size claim.

Precedent: Ghost runs ActivityPub as a separate Fedify multitenant service with its own DB, proxied at well-known paths — not inside Ghost core. Automattic’s WordPress ActivityPub (+ experimental FOSSE photo-post / Bluesky bundling) shows CMS vendors treating federation as an adapter, with still-modest adoption.
