Categories, Tags, and Featured Image

Group posts with categories under Settings → Categories and tags on each post; set a featured image in the post editor so the blog index and social previews show a strong thumbnail for every article.

Categories group posts on your Blog Page; featured images appear in cards and social previews. Spending a few minutes on taxonomy early keeps the index readable as your archive grows.

Prerequisites

Dashboard → Settings → Categories

Per post: Dashboard → Posts → Edit Post → Settings

What you're looking at

Categories tab: add, rename, reorder categories.

Edit Post → Settings: category, tags when enabled, featured image, Display Style (Hero / Editorial / Split), excerpt.

Implementation steps

  1. Open Settings → Categories and create groups that match your content (Tips, Sessions, News).
  2. Open a post → Edit Post → Settings.
  3. Assign one primary category per post.
  4. Add tags if your editor shows a tag field.
  5. Set a featured image with a landscape-friendly crop (16:9 works well on most themes).
  6. Choose Display Style for how the image and title appear on the public post page—pair with global Hero Settings in Blog post settings and layout.
  7. Write a short excerpt for index cards and hero overlays when the field is available.
  8. Save and open the public Blog Page to confirm grouping and thumbnails.

What you'll see

Posts appear under the right category filters with consistent card images. Link previews use the featured image when platforms scrape your URL.

Too many one-off categories

Merge small categories periodically so navigation stays scannable.

Missing featured image

Themes often fall back to a generic placeholder—set an image on cornerstone posts at minimum.

Verifying your setup

  • Categories exist in Settings → Categories.
  • At least one post has category, featured image, and excerpt.
  • The public blog index grouping looks correct.
